Oro Milo Race Set To Roll Off

ONCE AGAIN, the country's undisputed longest running road race under the auspices of Nestle Philippines Inc. will be conducting its elimination race in Cagayan de Oro on November 28.

Local organizer Megdonio "Megs" Llamera said no less than 14,000 runners are expected to see action in the 34th edition of National Milo Marathon regional elimination here for four race categories: the 3 km kiddie race, 5 km open race, 10 km open category and the 21-kilometer run's revival.

Just like in the past, Llamera said the 21-kilometer or half-marathon category will serve as the race's centerpiece event since it is open only for 18 years old and above.

The 5 km and 10 km races are open to all ages, both male and female, while the 3 km category is only for children whose ages range from seven to 12 years old, both boys and girls.

Participants are required to produce xerox copy of birth certificate and school ID during submission of entries.

Llamera said registration at the Milo secretariat under the main grandstand of Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center will be on a first-come-first-serve basis since the Oro race is limited only to 14,000 runners.

Entry fees are pegged at P50 for kiddie runners, P50 for fun (5k) race and P500 each for 10 km and 21 km categories, respectively.

Those who are interested are required to fill-up the registration form, pay the registration fee, submit photocopy of birth certificate or school ID and parental consent for those in 3k event along with an empty pack of 50-gram Milo.

A race pack which contains the race numbers and singlets for all categories will be given upon registration.

Top 10 runners in all categories will be receiving cash prizes, trophies for the top three and medals each for the fourth to tenth place finishers.

Also, there will be cash prizes and plaques for other contents categories, such as the top three fastest aggregate clocking of 25 runners from one school and in the cheer-dance competitions for secondary, elementary and college levels.

The starting line for the out-and-back road races will be right in front of the Girl Scout building along the Velez Street then turn left to Recto Avenue up to Opol building waiting shed and back to Pelaez Center track oval.(PR)
