BALLADEER Richard Poon and Funny Girl Pokwang perform together live for the first time ever in “RICHARD POON AND POKWANG -Back2Back Live in Cagayan de Oro” on Sunday, December 19 8p.M. at The Atrium of Limketkai Center. A special added attraction is ASAP XV Sessionista Markki Stroem whose photos in Europe recently stirred up a storm in the Internet.
A certified-platinum recording artist of MCA Universal, multi-awarded Richard Poon is known as the Philippines’ Big-Band Crooner with the unique touch to turn “standards” popularized by Frank Sinatra, Matt Monroe, Paul Anka and Nat King Cole in the 1950s into fresh-sounding crossover hits popular with both the young and old.
Amazingly, he also has the ability to give a fresh sound to current hits with his covers of Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated,” Chaka Khan’s “Through the Fire”, Florida/T-Pain’s “Low”, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and “Irreplaceable”, Rihanna’s “Umbrella”, Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls”, Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours”, and most recently, Lady Gaga’s “Pokerface” and the Korean Wondergirls’ mega hit “Nobody”.
Pokwang (Marietta Subong in real life) is a Filipina actress, TV host, singer, comedian, impersonator and salon co-owner. A member of ABS CBN’s Star Magic group of entertainers, she became a household name with her stint as co-host of the noontime variety show Wowowee. She started in a reality show in ABS-CBN and subsequently appeared in dramas and sitcoms of the network. She has been recognized with a Best Comedy Actress by the Philippine Movie Press Club for her portrayal in the sitcom Aalog-Alog and Best Female Comedian by People’s Choice Awards.
Markki Stroem (also spelled “Strøm”) is a finalist of the first Pilipinas Got Talent. At present, he is one of the artists of Cornerstone Talent Management Center which also manages the careers of Sam Milby and Richard Poon.
